Money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will pay $1 million for infection control in ambulatory surgical centers in Maine, New Jersey, Maryland, Florida, North Carolina, Indiana, Michigan, Arkansas, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming and Kansas.
Kentucky paper endorses public reporting and surveillance cultures for MRSA and HAI. "The health care industry has been reluctant to embrace the simple expedient of screening broadly for patients with MRSA; because some hospitals have refused to isolate all patients with MRSA; because too many doctors, nurses and other health professionals don't follow basic hygiene rules; because state regulation of hospitals is slipshod.
Users of WhyNotTheBest.org can now search for and compare data from more than 900 hospitals on the incidence of central line–associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs)—one of the most lethal hospital-acquired complications. The data show wide variation in CLABSI incidence, in spite of strong evidence on how to prevent them. This data is made possible through a partnership among The Commonwealth Fund, The Leapfrog Group, and Consumers Union.

More than 290,000 surgical site infections occur in U.S. hospitals each year. Patients who acquire infections from surgery spend, on average, an additional 6.5 days in the hospital, are five times more likely to be readmitted after discharge, and twice as likely to die.
Surgery patients are at risk for infection because surgical incisions create a pathway for germs to enter the body. Maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room is therefore critical to protect patients from being contaminated with bacteria, which can lead to infection.

Podiatrist A negligently severed a tendon in my toe while removing a bone spur, causing the toe to rotate. Podiatrist B only performed half of the operation necessary to repair it, causing the condition to worsen. Hopefully, Podiatrist C has been successful, but the jury is still out. Read More »
I had a left hip surgery in 2007 and the doctor used a round silver ball and taped it to my left leg to measure the length of the bone in the x-ray room. I thought this would be good and to make my left leg the length of my right leg that I had 3 previous hip surgeries. Well, my left leg is 1" shorter than my right and now I still walk with a limp and use a cane.
